I wore my fairy princess dress.
On my head I wore a crown.
Then I saw a homeless child
wearing a dirty, lonely frown.

No light shone from her wizened eyes
on this gloomy Halloween Day.
She begged to get food for her family
while I was out to play.

I was filled with so much shame
as her hollow cheeks I saw.
I took what I had for granted,
but this child had nothing at all.

Instead of going to my party,
I served dinner to homeless children.
For there but by the grace of God,
I could have been one of them.
