    • $10 donation requested, but not required

Room: Garuda Shrine Room (children), Werma Shrine Room (adults)

In this class, children 3-12 will try simple breathing meditation to experience how a deep breath helps calm us down when we are upset. We will also read a book about puppy/monkey mind, sing a song, and make pinwheels to help us see our breath.

Parents will practice developing attention by following the breath, avoiding distractions, letting go, and responding gently. We will also discuss mindful parenting by taking a deep breath and unitasking, and how to incorporate meditation practice in everyday family life.

This is the first lesson in the meditation unit. Those who complete all seven classes will receive a pin in a ceremony at the end of the last class, but each class can be attended without having attended any of the other classes.

The Shambhala Growing Brave Family Program is based on the principles that all children embody innate goodness, curiosity, and kindness. We explore Buddhist and Shambhala themes through play, music, art, and stories while incorporating simple, age appropriate mindfulness activities.

More information about our family program can be found on our center homepage.
