SHAMBHALA DAY marks the beginning of the New Year, and represents one of the most important traditions of Shambhala Buddhism. Based on the traditional Tibetan New Year's celebration of Losar, the day is calculated according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, and changes every year to coincide with the annual lunar cycles.
It is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, and elegance. Shambhala is an ancient tradition that is rooted in the longing we all have to be completely authentic and to live in a society that cultivates our true expression as human beings.
This is also the time when members of the Shambhala community are encouraged to make a financial donation to Shambhala in order to help support our local centers as well as our worldwide community.
You are invited to join the San Antonio Shambhala community in welcoming in the new Tibetan year – that of the Earth Pig.  The Earth Pig, or Boar, is said to be a time to focus on the qualities of being trustworthy, of simplicity and honesty! Perfect timing for this tumultuous period. Celebration and practice begins in a morning session on Tuesday 5th February and continues on Sunday, the 10th of February.
Tuesday – to mark the first day of the New Year, we will open the Center with 108 gongs.  This will be followed by practice and brunch for those able to stay. We will tune into an international broadcast at noon.
9:30am – arrival
Traditional toast to Great Eastern Sun
108 gongs to open the new year
10:00am – Community practice/Elixir of Life led by Shastri Linda Mockeridge
11:00am – Membership oath & Fundraiser

The celebration brunch will include breakfast tacos and Champagne and orange juice, just to help you be more productive if you happen to have to go to work!
