It’s time: Shambhala is getting a permanent home in San Antonio

257 E HildebrandDear Shambhala Community,

It’s time, and we need your help! Since Shambhala San Antonio’s humble beginnings in a private home in 1984, we have never had a permanent place to call home. As we approach our 30th year in San Antonio, I think it’s finally time that changed. For the past several years there have been multiple building search committees tasked with finding us a permanent home for the following reasons:

  • Our high rent
  • Lack of outdoor green space
  • The inability to add proper signage
  • No proper child program areas
  • The inability to add costsaving window tint
  • Constant roof leaks
  • Insect problems and holes in the back walls
  • Difficulty in temperature control and expensive utilities

Thanks to the work of our council and new building search committee, we have found a fantastic property at 257 E Hildebrand and are placing an offer. This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible generosity of a sangha member’s offer to pay the 20% down payment, and all of our amazing members who have sustained the center for so many years! Why are we hoping to move to this property?

  • By owning this space, we will be able to cut our operating expenses by almost 50%!
  • An amazing location close to Trinity University and Olmos Park
  • A fantastic outdoor space where we can eat, barbeque, socialize, have proper lhasangs, and just have fun!
  • Good parking
  • Great climate control, beautiful floors, and NO LEAKS!
  • A separate indoor community space which would also work great as a children’s area
  • The ability to create proper signage and entry ways
  • Walking distance to Taco Taco Cafe (okay, maybe that’s just for me 🙂

We do need your help to make this happen. There will be some large renovation tasks that will need to be done — removing a wall, expanding the entrance, painting, adding a large sign, moving costs, etc. As we go for financing, having a healthy bank account will be very important, so we need your donation for these renovations today.

Membership has never been larger, Open Houses have never been more crowded. It’s time. South Texas and the world need our help. Let’s help make enlightened society possible!

Click below to be a part of this historic event in San Antonio! For every donation of $1,000 or more, your name will be acknowledged in a plaque in the new community room!

This is an exciting time! Let’s establish these beautiful teachings in San Antonio for generations to come! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or info.

In basic goodness,

Phil Castillo
Center Director
