VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES ON THE NEW CENTER PROJECT OCT. 7-13,2013

Amber has requested that we publish her account of work on the center while they are here.
She has been keeping a volunteer log of the many hours of hard work that has gone into the center in the past week. Below is her daily list — it is very impressive! This week is the last week that Amber and DeAno will be sharing their many skills with our volunteers. Let’s get the word out that this week is the push to finish our new shrine room.

Monday
Oct. 7, 2013
Amber and DeAno of the Buddha Dharma Conservation Corp arrives in San Antonio hosted by Morgan and Troy, arranged by Morgan and Palmer
Joined with SA Sangha in on-going project to prepare the new building for appraisal and occupancy

Tuesday
• Meetings with Pat, Nick, Amber and DeAno
• Volunteer Coordination and Sangha Training – Amber and DeAno
• Demo shrine room closet DeAno and Geoffrey
• Demo shrine room floor boards and crown molding, trimmed sheetrock and pulled nails – Rebecca
• Demo fireplace and removed brick – DeAno and Geoffrey
• Construction pick- up Amber and Rebecca
Wednesday
• Meetings with Pat, Betsy, Nick, Amber and DeAno
• Supply run – Nick
• Took phones and blinds to Goodwill – Heather
• Volunteer Coordination and Sangha Training – Amber and DeAno
• Meeting with HVAC and Electrician contractors – Pat and DeAno
• Removed wall paper in bathroom and community room – Pat and Betsy
• Continued Demo fireplace and removed brick – DeAno
• Cleaned fireproof bricks for reuse with rotor chipping hammer – DeAno
• Demo and removal of bookcases in maintenance room – Rebecca
• Patched floor with cement around fireplace and started bricking fireplace – DeAno
• Sorted and piled brick for reuse – Geoffrey and Rebecca
• Removed Shrine room flooring and stacked– DeAno, Geoffrey, Rebecca, Amber

• Electrician tidied up the attic and moved old closet wires – Pat

• Reinforced ceiling with more screws – Troy
• Opened one more window and learned process for it – Troy
• Insulated Werma room – DeAno
• Scraped studs and painted with Kilz in Werma Room – Rebecca
• Cleaned fireproof bricks for reuse with rotor chipping hammer – Amber
• Removed “rat shit” ceiling insulation over shrine room – DeAno and Amber
• Demo 2 doorways – DeAno and Geoffrey
• Demo ceiling in maintenance room to remove “rat shit” – DeAno and Amber

• Met with plumber for bid on maintenance room and water heater, he capped the gas valve in shrine room – Amber and DeAno
• Construction supervision – DeAno
• Sanded all kitchen cabinets and prepped for paint (On-going project) – Betsy, Corina, Carrie
• Washed down the walls in the maintenance room – Geoffrey and Alicia
• Removed “rat shit” ceiling insulation – Jen from Austin, Adrianna, Morgan
